Hello, friends — it's been a little while.

I stepped back from the blog this spring, and I'll be honest: it was time well spent. I've been deep in study and preparation, sharpening my focus on a topic that sits right at the intersection of everything I care about — caregiving, health, and the everyday technology that can make growing older feel a little less lonely and a lot more connected.

Today, I'm excited to introduce a brand-new series: Connected and Cared For — Technology as a Lifeline for Older Adults.

Why this series, and why now

If you've followed Wellness for Every Season for a while, you know my background: 27 years as a respiratory practitioner, and today, hands-on work as a care companion for older adults here in the Nashville area. I've sat at hundreds of bedsides. I've watched families struggle with the same question again and again: How do we keep Mom safe, connected, and independent — especially when we can't be there every day?

Technology has an answer. Not the complicated, intimidating kind — the simple kind. A phone that's actually easy to use. With the press of a button, a device can call for help. A way for a daughter three states away to know her mother made it to breakfast this morning.

But here's the thing: most of what's written about senior technology reads like a product manual. This series will be different.

Meet Eleanor

Over the next three parts, you'll follow the story of Eleanor — an independent, sharp-witted woman in her eighties — and Marta, the caregiver who becomes part of her weekly rhythm. Through their story, we'll explore how the right technology, introduced the right way, can transform not just safety, but dignity, confidence, and connection.

Here's what's coming:

  • Part 1: Eleanor's story begins — the moment everything changed, and the first small step toward staying connected

  • Part 2: Building trust — how Marta and Eleanor's family found tools that felt helpful, not intrusive

  • Part 3: The bigger picture — what Eleanor's journey teaches all of us about aging, independence, and connection

When to expect it

Part 1 arrives next week, with the following installments every week after that. If you'd like each part delivered straight to your inbox, you can subscribe to my newsletter — I'd love to have you along.

Caring for someone — or planning for your own future — shouldn't feel like navigating alone. Let's explore this together.
